Palm Beach Shootout Sets the Standard for Flag Football in Florida

After attending multiple flag football tournaments this year, one event has clearly risen above the rest — the Palm Beach Shootout. What was already gaining traction has now firmly planted itself at the top of Florida’s competitive flag football ladder.

Coming into the tournament, the spotlight was on statewide powerhouses such as Seminole Ridge, Wellington, Somerset Academy, and Spanish River. These programs consistently set the bar across Florida, and the Palm Beach Shootout delivered exactly what elite competition demands. Top-tier teams from Broward and Miami-Dade counties were also in attendance, but despite their talent and depth, they were unable to capture top honors.

The level of individual talent on display was nothing short of elite. Standout athletes such as Ava Wotipka, Anabella Puccio, Avery DeMayo, Katie Diaz, Olivia Nagel, Maeson Frost, Audrey Haltiwanger, Brooke Eriksson, and the highly anticipated return of Courtney Heymach highlighted a weekend filled with high-level play and competitive intensity.

Tournament host Drew Immler once again delivered a well-run and highly competitive event. Having been present at the very first tournament he hosted back in August, it was clear then—and even more so now—that the level of competition he attracts continues to rise. The Palm Beach Shootout has become a destination for teams seeking to measure themselves against the best.

Each top contender brought something unique. Spanish River once again proved why they are considered one of the most prepared teams at any tournament. Somerset Academy showed their ability to take over games on both sides of the ball, regardless of the stage or opponent. Wellington, led by star quarterback Olivia Nagel, showcased one of the most reliable receiving groups in the tournament—wide receivers who did not drop a single pass all weekend.

But in the end, it was Seminole Ridge that stood above the rest.

Despite competing without their star quarterback Aubrey Fogel, who played a major role in Seminole Ridge’s success through districts, regionals, and the state tournament, the Hawks never missed a step. Maeson Frost stepped in as the starting quarterback and led the team with confidence and poise, guiding Seminole Ridge to the Palm Beach Shootout championship.

Prepared and dominant on both sides of the ball, Seminole Ridge defeated the best teams on the field, culminating in a thrilling championship matchup against Spanish River. The final ended in dramatic fashion with a 7–6 victory, sealed by a game-ending interception with seconds remaining, delivering one of the most competitive finishes of the season.

This tournament was a reminder that the further north you go in Florida, the tougher the competition becomes. Palm Beach County continues to take girls flag football seriously—and it shows. Their programs consistently reach districts, regionals, final fours, and state championships, proving that Palm Beach football operates on another level.

The Palm Beach Shootout has earned its place at the top of our list for competitive tournaments. Until next time, one thing remains true—

Leave it all on the field.
