Coral Gables enters this matchup at 9-3, led by quarterback Hannah Flores, who has thrown for 974 yards and 8 touchdowns, but has battled inconsistency with interceptions.
Senior Yasemin Obuz has been her top target, totaling 395 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns.
Defensively, Coral Gables has made its presence felt. Junior Cristina Sanchis leads the team with 18 flag pulls, while senior Ava Rios has been a ball hawk with 5 interceptions and 6 pass deflections. As a unit, Coral Gables has recorded 13 interceptions, proving their defense can keep them competitive.
Miami Northwestern (8-2), however, presents a different level of challenge.
Junior quarterback Tashara Robinson has been dominant, throwing for 1,713 yards, 24 touchdowns, and only 2 interceptions. She’s supported by one of the most explosive receiving duos in the tournament. Dezaria Hampton leads the way with 701 yards and 15 touchdowns, while Jah’keriyah Brown adds 564 yards and 7 touchdowns.
Northwestern’s defense is just as dangerous. Zahara Leaks leads with 27 flag pulls, followed by Aniya Holmes with 22. Neveah Ward has added pressure up front with 8 sacks. In the secondary, Hampton has 7 interceptions and 17 pass deflections, Damaria Gatlin has 6 interceptions, and Brown contributes on both sides with 3 interceptions and 27 pass deflections.
As a unit, Northwestern’s defense has totaled 15 sacks and 28 interceptions — elite production.
Final Take: Coral Gables defense has kept them in games all season, but Miami Northwestern is simply more complete. With the ability to dominate on both offense and defense, Northwestern is expected to take control early and potentially force a running clock. Containing playmakers like Dezaria Hampton and Jah’keriyah Brown on both sides of the ball will be a major challenge.
Prediction: Miami Northwestern wins convincingly.
