Edison Powers Into GMAC Tournament as a National Contender.

When it comes to dominance in girls flag football, few teams are making as much noise as Edison heading into the GMAC Tournament. Not only are they one of the top teams in the state, but they’re also building a reputation as a national powerhouse.

Edison’s identity mirrors elite programs like Seminole Ridge and Park Vista—teams known for their high football IQ, disciplined execution, and next-level athleticism. With a roster loaded with 4-star talent and backed by an extremely intelligent coaching staff, Edison has become one of the most complete teams in the tournament.

At the center of it all is quarterback Rakyia Louis, who has been nothing short of spectacular this season. Louis has thrown for 1,796 yards and 24 touchdowns while tossing just 2 interceptions—an elite touchdown-to-interception ratio that highlights her decision-making and command of the offense. She’s been the engine that keeps Edison moving, consistently putting her team in position to score.

On the receiving end, Torri Cotman has emerged as the go-to playmaker, leading the team with 544 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns. Her ability to stretch the field and make big plays in key moments makes her a constant threat. Right behind her, Malaysia David and Briana Bogan have each added 6 receiving touchdowns, giving Edison a dangerous trio that can attack defenses from multiple angles.

But what truly separates Edison is their defense—and it’s been nothing short of dominant.

Talayah Ahkdar leads a relentless pass rush with 17 sacks, while Jennifer Burton has added 11 of her own. As a unit, Edison has racked up 34 sacks this season, creating constant pressure that turns opposing quarterbacks into targets.

And if the pass rush doesn’t get you, the secondary will.

True freshman Mikeria Miller is already making a name for herself, leading the team with 6 interceptions. She’s followed closely by Tigerlilly Blunt, who has 5 interceptions of her own. As a defense, Edison has totaled 23 interceptions, proving they can take the ball away just as easily as they can pressure the quarterback. Edison has also only allowed 12 points in nine games.

With a high-powered offense and a suffocating defense, Edison enters the GMAC Tournament as a complete team—and a serious problem for anyone standing in their way.

If they continue playing at this level, there’s no question: Edison isn’t just competing for a GMAC title—they’re setting the standard for elite girls flag football across the country.

Since acquiring quarterback Angelina Molina, Homestead has gone 7-3 and is riding on a 4-game winning streak. Molina has made an immediate impact, throwing for 1,850 yards with 21 touchdowns. Her ability to extend plays and keep the offense moving has been key to Homestead’s success.

She’s surrounded by emerging playmakers.

True freshman Jordyn Warren leads the team with 538 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns, while Gernaia Davis has added 432 yards and a team-high 8 receiving touchdowns. Together, they form a dynamic receiving duo capable of challenging any secondary.

On defense, Mikekeria Everett has been a force, leading the team with 39 flag pulls. Senior Ardajah Fletcher anchors the secondary with 3 interceptions, helping create timely turnovers.

One of the most intriguing storylines—Homestead thrives away from home. They are a perfect 5-0 on the road this season, showing resilience and composure in hostile environments.

However, this matchup presents their toughest challenge yet.

To compete with Edison, Homestead will need to apply constant pressure and play nearly flawless football. Any mistakes against a team this disciplined and explosive could quickly turn the game out of reach.

Prediction:Homestead’s momentum and road success make them a dangerous opponent, but Edison’s speed, high football IQ, and elite coaching give them the edge. Expect Edison to control the game and pull away late.

Final Take: Edison wins by two possessions.
